Almost anyone can join the Army National Guard.

All that is required is making a 31 on the Armed Services Vocational Apptitude Battery (ASVAB) within the past 2 years. You must also be able to complete 10 weeks of Basic Training (BCT) (1 week Reception, 9 weeks of training), and an Advanced Individual Training (AIT) School (length depends on Military Occupation Speciality (MOS)).

After completing those requirements you are only required to attend "Guard Duty" Drill one weekend per month and a two week tour of duty each year.

The Army National Guard is one of the largest employers in South Carolina.
